5 Important Components of a Power Control Panel

Reported by Bruce Walker | December 7th, 2017 @ 08:59 AM

A centralized unit, an electrical power control panel regulates machines or equipment. It comprises of a complex circuit of capacitors, electrical wiring and switches. A control panel makes it capable of isolating, routing or disconnecting an entire electrical circuit or just a part of it. It is used in homes, offices, power grids, industrial establishments and more. A control panel comprises of a number of important components. Find out about 5 of them.

These wires transfer the current. Usually, there are 2 types of cables. The power cables join machines to electrical supply with the aid of a panel component. Control unit internal circuits are connected by control cables.

Bus bar

This is a tiny unit composed of aluminum. It serves as a central hub and aids in incoming power supply distribution.

Contactor and overload relays

If offers more safety to motors by interrupting power supply during a current overload. Users themselves can decide the optimal current limit. As a thumb rule, this is 80% of the entire load. For higher loads, the contactor serves to pass along the current.

MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker) makes an electrical circuit safer. An MNC breaks the circuit and prevents damages caused due to supply surges. MCCB (Mould Case Circuit Breaker) is implemented for current loads as high as 800Amp. Dealers or manufacturers of electrical control panels can inform about how many circuit breakers are needed in a circuit.

It consists of a fuse unit and a switch (handle), and is needed in spots where there is basic supply connection.
